Summary of the Case
We represented a student with auditory processing disabilities who encountered discrimination at her college campus. The campus refused to accommodate her disabilities by providing closed captions on audiovisual demonstrations in her classes. We sued the college for violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act (“ADA”) and obtained a settlement of $90,000 for the student and an agreement that the college would remove take corrective action to provide reasonable accommodations such as real time open captioning of films and bring the entire campus into full compliance with the ADA.
